Once you have had a dishwasher there is no way you will want to wash up by hand again.

Using a dishwasher saves you time and water with some models using as little as 6.5 litres per cycle, plus dishwashers can wash at much higher temperatures than our hands (up to 75 degrees) can stand so from a hygiene point of view there is no comparison.

Dishwashers not only wash your pots and glasses they also dry them so when the cycle is finished all you need to do is put them away in the cupboard. Many other items can also be effectively cleaned in your dishwasher from oven shelves to some kids toys and there are even some interesting recipes that use a dishwasher as the cooker (look for salmon cooked in a dishwasher on YouTube!)

There are 2 sizes of freestanding dishwasher 'full size' at 60cm wide and 'slimline' at 45cm wide. These sizes are also available in integrated models where a kitchen door attaches to and covers the whole front of the appliance. Semi integrated installation is also available in certain makes which means that the control panel of the dishwasher is visible but the lower part is covered by a kitchen door. If your really short of space table top top dishwashers are another option.
